As the rate in which hardware technology creates new products for your mobile needs the real question we need to be asking is will the software of tomorrow support my existing files and ways of doing business?
One of the important things that we do at 2BMobile is to evaluate new technologies to determine if the returns of Investment and Effort is worth the conversion process of changing from your current applications to newer ones.
One obvious example is converting from a desktop office suite to a Web-based one, like MS Office to Google Apps. If you were for example running an old version of MS Office and not using many of the advance features of MS Office word processing then switching to Google's word processor would not entail much more effort than uploading the files and then using them within Google's product.
However, many of us use specific application software that is unique to our profession and does not have an equivalent product as a web application. These applications clearly need to stay on your laptop until there are viable web-based options.
In future blog postings we will look at various desktop software applications and compare them with the web-based equivalents to help you determine which web-apps are right for you to use now and in the future.
What are your thoughts about moving your business software to the Web?
