Are Tablets Ready for Business?

I have been studying whether using a tablet in my case a iPad is ready for a business person to use in place of our notebook computer. As anyone who follow this blog knows I am a big fan of moving work to the cloud and off of the client machine. Net books where the first step to a lower cost and performance client using applications like Google Apps and MS Office App that provides applications that resides in the cloud.

But to make this all work there are some basic components that have to be in the user's ecosystem to make it work.

First the cloud has be able to provide all the heavy processing that will be need to run your business no matter what the requirements.

Secondly good internet connectivity whether it'sWifi or cellular.

The last is a client that can work both on and off line and keep it all synched.

Since we started four years ago the Internet has come along way in providing processing and connectivity so the question today is what is the right client device for us? Clearly notebook and net books can do the job and many people have already use they're smartphones. So our question is can the tablet fit into today's mobile landscape?

Over the next couple of weeks I will be testing my tablet to see if I can go on working with just a tablet a my work computer. Have you already made the switch? Please share your thoughts and experiences here.
